Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao popularly known as NTR, is a well known Personality all over the world. He is not only a film actor but also a politician, who changed the course of the State of Andhra Pradesh. He was an staunch advocate of AP’s distinct culture and identity. He not only created a separate identity for Telugu speaking people in India, but also in the whole World.

After achieving a Demi-god status with his roles in films, NTR entered politics in 1982. He founded the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on 29 March 1982 in Hyderabad. He explained that the decision was based on a historic need to rid Andhra Pradesh of the corrupt and ineffective rule of the Congress, whose leadership had changed the Chief Minister five times in five years in the State.



He campaigned for restoring the “Dignity of the Telugu people” and advocated for forming a closer relations between the Government and the common man. He mainly popularized the slogan, “Telugu Vari Atma Gauravam”, meaning Telugu people’s self-respect. He made such a thumping victory that NTR and his Party entered in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1983. He won the elections and captured power in just 9 months of forming the Party. This is the first time in the World History that a single person captured power in such a less time, after forming the Party.

NTR reflected socialist and populist views in several of his policies. He provided basic necessities such as housing, clothing and food for the people below the poverty line. He was instrumental in providing equal rights for women at par with men. He introduced many popular schemes such as the Midday Meal Scheme for poor children, rice at Rs. 2 per kg, and prohibiting the selling of alcohol in the state.

Last, but not the least, he is not a single man, but a System.
