A Tirupur Court issued arrest warrant against DMDK Chief Vijayakanth and his wife Premalatha after they repeatedly failed to appear before it in connection with a defamation case.

Public Prosecutor KN Subramaniam filed a defamation case against Vijayakanth and Premalatha for making derogatory remarks against Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa at a public meeting held in Palladam on November 6th last year. Neither Vijayakanth nor his Wife turned up before the court for any of the past four hearings.

On Tuesday, Principal District Judge Alamelu Natarajan issued arrest warrant against Vijayakanth and Premalatha.

In the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, DMDK has been washed out completely and none of its candidates including Vijayakanth was able to leave an impact. There were even reports about the possibility of shutting down the party as several party leaders and workers have already joined AIADMK and DMK.
