Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel submitted her resignation on grounds that she will be turning 75 in November this year. She sent the resignation letter to BJP Leadership seeking relief from the duties two months in advance only to give enough time for her successor to be prepared for key events such as 'Vibrant Gujarat' summit in January next year and Assembly Polls by year end.
Anandiben Patel told that the practice of voluntary retirement after attaining the age of 75 is continuing in BJP from quite some time. She claims her retirement is a good thing and it only creates opportunities for the Young Leaders in the party.
In May 2014, Anandiben Patel was appointed as Chief Minister of Gujarat after then CM Narendra Modi was elected to the Lok Sabha from Varanasi.
PM Narendra Modi set the rule of 'No Posts' for Leaders above the age of 75. Even LK Advani was denied Cabinet Berth for the same reason.
