The Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) ordered Army to hold an enquiry into the allegations leveled against Lieutenant General Arvind Singh Rawat by Lt Colonel Harshawardhan Singh who is serving under him. Tribunal ordered Army to complete the exercise within 6 months.
A petition was moved by Lt Colonel Harshawardhan Singh accusing Lt General Arvind Singh Rawat of seeking favors from his wife for offering him a better rank. Mr.Singh complained Lt.General has issued unfavorable Annual Confidential Report (ACR) against him after he complained to a Superior Officer against the indecent remarks to his wife.
Actually, Lt General invited Harshawardhan Singh who was then serving as Major and his wife to his office. He then conveyed that the wife of his subordinate have to offer some favor to fetch her husband a higher rank in the Army.
Before the Tribunal, Lt.General claimed he just brief the couple about the minor shortcomings in the most pleasant manner. He, however, failed to justify why a Major's Wife who was a housewife was called in the office during the working hours.
Lieutenant General Arvind Singh Rawat retired a year ago. The judgement of the Tribunal has tarnished his reputation to some extent.
