AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi kickstarted Congress poll campaign for 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Polls with a roadshow in Varanasi Yesterday. This is her first visit to Varanasi after Narendra Modi won here and became Prime Minister of the country. She, however, left the roadshow midway due to high fever.
Before starting the roadshow, Sonia Gandhi garlanded the statue of BR Ambedkar at the Circuit House to lure the Dalits. The response has been overwhelming for her roadshows when she moved in a car and then on an open-top vehicle. She kept smiling and waving hands at the large crowd that kept cheering for her and chanted slogans targeting NDA Government.
PM Narendra Modi told that he prayed for the quick recovery and good health of Congress President. He even spoke to former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit who was accompanying Sonia Yesterday and sent a special flight along with Chief Medical Officer BV Singh to Varanasi. Sonia was offered treatment at the VIP Lounge in Varanasi Airport for viral fever. She was accompanied by a team of doctors when she left for New Delhi.
Sonia was upset over cutting short her Varanasi tour. She promised to visit Kasi Viswanath Temple during her next visit.
