Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos is being honoured with the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize 2016 for his priceless contribution to end 5-decade long Civil War in the country. Over 2 lakh people have died due to the Civil War in Colombia.

Interestingly, Voters in Colombia have rejected the peace deal proposed by President Juan Manuel Santos by a narrow margin. Within few days after this setback, Colombian President bagged the top honour for his efforts to bring peace.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee maintained rejection from Colombia Voters doesn't mean the peace process is dead. It explained Voters just rejected a particular peace agreement but they aren't against peace. The panel opined the Nobel Peace Prize should be seen as a tribute to Colombian people who haven't given up hope on peace despite facing lots of hardships.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos is a Harvard-educated and belongs to one of the richest families in Colombia. He served as Defense Minister a decade ago. Mr. Santos outshined 375 candidates who were in race for this year's Nobel Peace Prize.
