Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu told during the Question Hour in Lok Sabha that India's Bullet Train will be cost-effective.
Suresh Prabhu: 'Currently, Duronto Express covers 508 km between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in 7 hours. Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train will be able to reduce the traveling time to just 2 hours with a maximum speed of 350 kmph and 320 kmph. The fare of bullet train will be less than airfare'.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train costs Rs 97,636 crore and It will be completed in 6 years. Japan would provide 81% of the funding in the form of loan.
When quizzed if the huge funds allotted for the two bullet train projects will hamper the projects in other parts of the country, Railway Minister assured there is no regional bias and each state would be receiving more than double than past allocations.
