Sri Lanka crushed Australia in the First Test Match. The hosts defeated the Australians by a margin of 106-runs. This is only the second victory of Sri Lanka against Australia in 27 Tests. The last time they won was under Sanath Jayasuriya's captaincy in 1999.

Sri Lanka 1st Innings: 117 All Out; Australia 1st Innings: 203 All Out

Australia 2nd Innings: 353 All Out; Australia 2nd Innings: 161 All Out

Kusal Mendis fight knock of 176 runs in the 2nd Innings was the turnaround for Sri Lankans. Then, Spinners Rangana Herath (9 wickets) and Lakshan Sandaken (7 wickets) capitalized on the health lead.



Australian Batsman Peter Nevill and Steve O'Keefe tried their best to end the match as a draw on fifth day.They created a record by scoring just 4 runs in 178 balls and there were 22.5 consecutive maiden overs out of them. Spinner Dhananjaya de Silva ended the record partnership for 9th Wicket finally.
