All the political parties have been using Special Category Status for political mileage. While TDP Leadership joined the protests, Opposition Parties have been giving bandh calls and staging dharnas all over the state. A YSR Congress Leader attempted suicide Yesterday complaining against the harassment from local police.
YCP Leader and Amudalavalasa Constituency Party In-charge Tammineni Sitharam led the dharna for Special Status at Municipal Office. Cops took Tammineni and other YCP Leaders into custody and took them to police station. They were allowed to leave for home after some time.
After he reached home, Tammineni was arrested again by the cops on grounds that he was responsible for the damaged caused to the computer in Municipal Office at the time of dharna. Hurt by the allegations, Tammineni poured kerosene on his body and tried to commit suicide. But, People around him reached quickly and prevented the extreme step. YCP found fault with Police for ill-treating the former MLA.
Tammineni Sitharam was an influential leader in Srikakulam district when he used to be in TDP. He, however, faced defeat on Praja Rajyam and YSR Congress tickets in 2009 and 2014 elections.
